shoe boxes shoved away underneath your bed
stuff you couldn’t part with stuff inside your head
rosettes ciggie cards and old away kits
ticket stubs and football boots falling half to bits
chucked into the cupboard slung up in the attic
all the stuff made of dreams bland and dramatic
news cuttings scrapbooks photos that have faded
bits of coloured streamers when the trophy was paraded
football mem’rabilia in my football life
I can’t part with anything please don’t tell my wife

Nobby Stiles’ prized-medal going for a song
heroes on the playing field what went wrong?
football figures with one arm where did they go?
broken crossbar sellotaping my Subbuteo
souvenirs of history some say it’s sad
our reflections in collections of the times we had
grandad’s old programmes autographs and pens
annuals rattles scarves badges get them out again
tell me where to put them all …are they on display?
white walls and feng shui make it hard today
