It’s easy from the stands
You can see all the moves
You can see all the action:
The players in fluid movements,
Offside decisions are clear-cut,
Free kicks are easily seen,
Yellow cards stand out a mile,
Red cards are obvious,
And the Referee gets them all wrong.

You know:
Who the ball should be passed to,
Who should take the free kicks,
Who should take the penalties
Who should come on
Who should go off.

A manager
Surrounded by hundreds of other managers.
Everyone with years of experience
Everyone sure, in their knowledge of the game.
Everyone with twenty twenty vision from every angle.
Everyone confident
That you don’t need the man in black in the middle.

They’ve no pressure from the fans,
Or the Chairman
Or the Directors
Or the bank
Or the press
Or the shareholders.

One of many thousands of managers,
With no one to criticise your decisions.
It’s easy being a manager,
From the stands.
