Kingfisher Blue

When football is not quite the Beautiful Game
It’s flowing locks locked down and cramped
Messed up in clumsy tackles and mistimed passes
And our hearts choked in pandemic pandemonium
Glued to tellys and fixed on pixels and that eerie crowd sound
That sounds nothing like my sort of tribe
It’s a football season, but not as we know it,
So I pass my time watching herons not storks*
Waiting for the song of the Kingfisher.
