Excellence consumed him, quality excelled
Football ran through him, passion as well
He was an icon of pride, a hero in white
A king among players, a dog who could bite
A fearsome defender, master of his craft
A credit to old England, a general of graft
He never ceased to amaze us, or failed to please
A mark of perfection, and skill to appease
He was born to inspire us, never willing to quit
Boleyn’s mighty warrior…was made of true grit
He was fearsome in battle… and gentle of mind
Grace lived within him…amazing man kind
We knew him as ‘Mooro’ and we salute him today
England’s greatest defender…. confirmed by Pele
