Nets

Nets should not be too taut,
should not be too shallow
to allow the ball
to bounce out,
but instead should be deep
to let it settle;
let it nestle in the net.
We need to hear the soft caress,
the kiss of ball on nylon
as the ball enters the net
and stays in its soft embrace.
Not a twang as it
bounces back out into play,
the moment all too brief.
