Only One Match Of The Day (@ Dover)

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 perhaps it was that mid-day kick off
with a fever all over the land
and aside from Manchester and Glasgow
this was the one for real fans

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 on a day like today you could feel it
in a match that will stir memories
when two of the big boys faced battle
where you can’t see the pitch for the trees

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 but the media didn’t quite notice
and we never quite grab their attention
it might be entitled the National
but we never get much of a mention

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 If you’re outside the North and you’re not overseas
if you live near to where your team play
forget all the hype in the papers
there was only one match of the day

if you went in your pub they would jeer
but with only two screens when the big boys are on
then you wouldn’t see Forest Green there

but they’re closed and your plans looked all over
and none of your mates had got BT installed
who were showing the Rovers at Dover

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 and what did they miss at Old Trafford
or at Celtic Park on such a day
they missed out a seven goal thriller
in a game Forest Green threw away

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 perhaps it was sloppy- complacent
and we ran out the losers 4-3
we’re a swashbuckling side and we’re learning
we move on..que sera…we will see

Dover 4 FGR 3 ~ Vanarama National League Conference Sat 10 Sept.

A see-saw seven goal classic . Well it sounded like one on the BBC commentary.

The only Forest Green game shown on BT this season so far and wouldn’t you know, it was being shown on at the same day and time as the big boy derbies :Man Utd /City and Celtic /Rangers .

I don’t have BT and knew none of the local pubs would have the game on. Rang the club on Friday but The club bar wasn’t gonna be open. In desperation, I did explore one free EE option of watching on my phone and trying to download apps etc but still being a bit of a Luddite… it got complicated! Eg ; Six months free, then you automatically begin a year commitment and get charged or you have to cancel blah blah blah.

Back to the old online radio commentary it was.
