Ooohh Kevin de Bruyne

Those lamentable pundits wrote him off from the start
No bottle, too timid, doesn’t show enough heart
Rejected by Mourinho, labelled a flop
If the special one didn’t rate him he can’t be much cop
He discarded Salah as well, that was equally dumb
But a specialist in failure is what Jose’s become
While Kev’s been a centurion, won the treble, and four in a row
Not bad for a misfit who wasn’t worth the dough

For a creative midfielder he’s got all that you need
Delivering killer through balls when on the move at full speed
Those trademark diagonal crosses so hard to defend
When assistance is needed, he’s Erling’s best friend
So many thunderous drives, struck with both feet
As an attacking all-rounder he’s almost complete
And yes maybe his aerial prowess isn’t too great
But that diving header at Brighton was well worth the wait

OPTA stats are the faceless fake fans’ obsession
And Kev’s numbers show he often gives up possession
But mere statistics should never be allowed to disguise
The evidence of what you see with your own eyes
The safe option’s no option for a man with his vision
And effecting the art of the possible requires total precision
Yet time and again he delivers, to win us the game
Prompting the Seven Nation Army to belt out his name
We say de broyner but apparently you say debrooner
We’d have changed it if only you’d told us sooner

Debating City’s best ever – what a futile occupation
But Kev always features in that conversation
King Colin and David set the bar pretty high
But would anyone argue against including this guy?
The best our league’s ever seen? Another pointless debate
But he’ll always be rated as a true all-time great
Social media morons can’t see beyond their own teams
Say their own starboys are best, yeah right, in your dreams
But Kev’s brilliance transcends their witlessly childish views
And his fans in the stands aren’t restricted to Blues
In our minds he’ll live forever, because take it from me
He really did see things that they’ll never see
Hi Steve
I’ve come across you before on the live poetry circuit…something I’ve also been involved in since the late 90s at slams, gigs and festivals. Did you ever get to Glasto?
I was also at Swindon when José subbed and berated Kevin in a League Cup game for Chelsea….
Salah as you point out went the same way…
Be interesting to see Kev’s next move?
Best
Crispin
