RELIEF AND RENEWED HOPE.

All Boro fans will be relieved and very, very pleased,
Now that long-held relegation fears have finally been eased,
The season – not before time – has been totally turned around,
And throughout the town and far beyond, great, renewed hopes abound.

I’m certainly of the view that this remarkable revival,
Now guarantees for Boro their vital Premiership survival,
Our season’s generally lacked craft and been somewhat short of style,
But the all-important points have once more brought about a smile.

We’re now eleven points clear of the relegation zone,
After Birmingham City were, with difficulty, overthrown,
The game was certainly not pretty or with the greatest style embossed,
And the manager, Steve Bruce, claimed that, “The best team had lost.”

The most important factor was the outcome of the game,
Performance doesn’t matter, or so the pundits claim,
At least until survival is mathematically assured,
Then it’s time to thank the fans for all the agony endured.

Bruce may have a point when he claims that he’d been robbed,
I remember saying just the same on the day I was demobbed,
After all he’d seen his chances of survival much reduced,
Whereas, for the Boro, it was a truly massive boost.

It can’t be said that Birmingham had been well and truly buried,
And Roma’s representatives wouldn’t be unduly worried,
Though they might have gone away feeling totally unimpressed,
They hadn’t seen the Boro at their superb ‘Big Game’ best.

So, can McClaren once more prove that he’s the all-time-best Svengali?
As we enter what could prove to be an action-packed finale,
With progress in UEFA and the F.A. Cup and then,
Let’s entertain and finish in the Premiership’s top ten

Poor Mick McCarthy has finally got the push,
A new manager’s being sought, but please don’t rush,
Kevin Ball’s been brought in with a brand new whip,
To perform the impossible and keep afloat the sinking ship.

That, almost surely, has to be the Black Cats’ doom,
And the Stadium of Light is now the Stadium of Gloom,
For me this really leaves a truly nasty odour,
But I do hope, sincerely, that he does a job like Roeder.

I really feel so sad for ‘always honest’ Mick,
He certainly did his best to make the players click,
But the quality, it would seem, simply wasn’t there at all,
But I wish them well under new man, Kevin Ball.
