lying unfinished
on the dressing room floor
the team sheet waits
for the final score
¶ 2

the scorers, the subs,
the dying, the dead
the Gaffer’s last choice
waiting to be read
¶ 3
Leave a comment on verse 3 0
the names long forgotten
to most fans, not all.
the fact that they played,
gave the game their all
¶ 4
Leave a comment on verse 4 0
a kick off, a game,
it’s just how you play
some fouls, no regrets
at the end of the day
¶ 5
Leave a comment on verse 5 0
the last final whistle,
The Ref says “let’s go,
the dressing room beckons,
it’s the end of the show
¶ 6
Leave a comment on verse 6 0
so, now shake the hand
of the other team’s men,
it’s time to pack up lads,
and say “never again””
