Thank You Uncle Peter

We’ve populated and now we’re congratulated,
now I’d like to say thanks, but no speech worthy
of Hanks, just to say thank you very much and
don’t worry we’ll keep in touch, let you know
which way he leans and if I’m coming apart at
the seams, as he wavers through his footballing
fancies, hits and misses and me stacking the
chances. It’s good advice Uncle Peter but I won’t
be able to resist a little tinker, I’m obsessed with
this theme, he must support my team. Get a grip!
Who cares? I do, when I was a kid the fashion
was Spurs, I remember almost succumbing, it
was so, so tempting, even just to annoy my brother,
it could have led to a life times bother.

What’s a lifetime? Sometimes he stops breathing,
just a few seconds, but I stop too. And then he can
support anyone he likes.

I’ll coax him to the Park in weather and performance
stark; I’ll encourage, overbear make him make his
mark, not just a fan but a player too, from this little
man only the best will do. Wait, wait this was going
to be a thank you, and it wasn’t going to be a Hanks.
It’s not really, just a little ditty of hopes and thanks;
and this lad of mine has ‘til he’s nine to decide on
his team, and he’d best choose well if you know what
I mean.
