Thanks, Keith

Star jumps, push ups
Sit ups, sweat.
At seventeen
I’d have done them all,
All I needed was a word.
You couldn’t do it, Keith.
What you could do
Was turn down a corridor
Smiling to yourself.
I asked for pace,
What you gave
Left me standing,
Red as ten mile runs,
Devastated.
You were a teacher,
An ex-pro,
But I learned something,
Learnt words are important,
More important than I’d ever thought,
Though it took
Another thirty years
Before I wrote them down.
