2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The game was a cracker,
The goals just flew in.
The first, in two minutes,
Went in off a shin.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The second, a volley,
From twenty five yards,
Surprised the poor keeper
Who was caught off his guard.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 The third, an own goal,
An unfortunate blip,
A fight-back ensued
As we let our lead slip.

A hot cup of tea
We’d no sooner sipped
Than it went to 4-3.

A brilliant shot,
The sixth off the bar
From the penalty spot.

On some waves of attack.
Their centre-half notched one
And then their full-back.

And a minute to go,
Our manager shouted,
“Hey, just a mo!”,

It’s the Charity Cup,
Let’s show them we’re Christians
And give the game up!”

The team all agree.
Our opponents are gents
And deserve victory.”

Amazed and surprised,
Looked on as our team
Performed suicide.

Attacking one goal
Our keeper stood tall
But succumbed to the toll.

Made the score 7-6.
The crowd carried high
The man ‘tween the sticks.

Our opponents declared
As they threw their cloth caps
Twenty feet in the air.

And both teams they lined up
For match presentations
-But where was the cup?

16 Leave a comment on verse 16 0 Our keeper had legged it,
Dismayed by his plight
And with him the trophy
We’d “Lost” on the night!
