My first Anfield football match Liverpool verses Spurs
Happened on a Saturday afternoon in March 1992,
Filled with excitement, ready to burst
Waiting outside the Kop in a que.

Paula and Lizzy my two friends who joined me
Were old hats at this game,
Used to old men who on the Kop would pee
Me, I was hoping I’d be on the telly for the fame!

Sweets in our pockets, programmes rolled up sleeves
On the Kop we sang our way from the top to the bottom,
My grandad, he told me of pickpockets and thieves
But no-one here was that rotten.

Once we took up our positions on the Kop we watched the players warming up
Occasionally we would break out in full song until the 3pm start,
From You’ll Never Walk Alone to We’ll Win The FA Cup
Then the players ran out with a dart.

After a while Dean Saunders would score
Closely followed by a strike by Paul Stewart,
As goals where scored the Kop gave such a roar
By now Anfield had captured by heart.

The game finished 2-1 and I was in a daze
For I had never witnessed anything like this before,
I felt part of the Anfield family, the Liverpool craze
And now 90 minutes of football had left me wanting more!
