The Day You Never Came Home

The longest day of my life, the day you never came home.
The world was my best friend that day, but still I felt alone.
Never knew anything was wrong, until news trickled through.
Then every minute of every hour, I could only think of you.
News flashes on the local radio, updates appearing on TV.
My family and friends, all trying to say the right things to me.
The early evening was soon upon me,the April sun had set.
Still no news received, how worse could my growing fears get?
Often seen it broadcast before, an emergency number to phone.
But that one was meant for me, the day you never came home.
