The Game Is Just Poetic

Maybe money’s better spent
on food or education,
or research, that we might invent
some new immunization,
but football’s not what made the poor.
Ask the ones who hunger.
It just distracts from what life lacks
and makes the old feel younger.

Maybe we should spare the shows
our hosts pay for on credit,
but I have met someone who knows;
I heard him when he said it:
“Football’s not the thing to blame,
it’s just the anesthetic.
It’s life that’s cruel,
It’s not the Game.
The Game is just poetic.”
