The Night Before The Christmas Game

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 twas ten o clock on Christmas night
the nearby houses filled with light
but Jim was down and not so bright
the day had flown so fast
the kids surprises neath the tree
the shrieking sounds of laughs and glee
were back at home where he should be
unlike in days gone past

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 the younger players did not care
for they were single debonair
and were content to chill and stare
at tvs from their room
while Jim used up his mobile time
he stuck to juice instead of wine
a salad and a clementine
and sat in silent gloom

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 and not for Jim the Christmas meal
we cannot know how he must feel
his sacrifice and nerves of steel
alone in his hotel
come New Year’s Eve the same again
make sure you are in bed by ten
instead of clubbing with your friends
as you know very well

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 and just to make those mattters worse
his name on team sheets came not first
the game ahead loomed like a curse
a substitute at best
and though you cannot understand
how some can get paid fifty grand
yet not be in the gaffer’s plans
we all can feel the test

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 so think again as you embark
on sweets and drink from dawn to dark
that some must stay fit for the park
it really is a shame
that holed up many miles away
they miss it all and may not play
who’d be a footballer today?

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 well I would..giss a game!
