A cool cut field, a brand new net,
I’m playing first the game is set.
I enter slow to take it in,
the team, the coach, all want to win.

But would it be so bad to fail,
to leave our pride to dry, go stale.
I know they say go play and try,
but I’d give up now and here is why.
¶ 3

The game was once my pride and joy
but I’d become my nations toy.
I’d play my best and score the goals,
but all I’ve earned is what controls.

I left the league went on my way,
I’ll play the game some other day.
I’m not just done, quit, or through,
I’ll play the game just me, not you.
