Didn’t Roman pay for Chelsea’s ‘resident football poet’ to go to the final???
Editor Reply:.Crispin is not and was not the “resident poet” at Chelsea FC. A “resident poet ” by very nature of the term implies ‘funding’ etc;
Crispin lives in Stroud 100 miles away .He worked at CFC once or twice a year for 4 years and still works there from time to time with the students in the Study Support Centre and in libraries.
He also works at various league grounds occaasionally.
He contributes poems and articles to the Blues club magazine and programme. He is was termed ‘ Chelsea Poet Loreate’ (slightly tongue in cheek) by the official club magazine, after an article about him writing poems from his Shed. He did get to visit schools Porto via his Chelsea link. However as with Ian McMillan at Barnsley and Attila The Stockbroker – with whom he is good friends, it is very much a labour of love.
Hope thast clarifies and answers your question PP and thank you for your kind interest . By the way, the only ‘resident poet ‘ we know of that has ever been officially funded long term as a resident poet was Sarah Wardle ,who was funded for a year to be the Tottenham Resident Poet.
