The Second Eleven

Turning and turning in the widening game
The player cannot hear the manager;
Teams fall apart; the board chairs cannot hold;
Meerkats are loosed upon the football fields,
The trophy-tied fever is loosed, and somewhere
The ceremony appears fanatical;
The best team were away, while the worst
Were at home with distant intentions.
