There is a place where the ghetto ends and just before the rec begins,
where we sometimes, played football into the night,
and sliding tackles on tarmac would start a fight,
and shadows sparred beneath a blinking light,
then cool as you like, he`d take the penalty, and it`s who dares wins,

then we`d leave that place,with burned out cars and punctured balls,
past the factory where my Grandfather used to work,
through the alley way, where the muggers used to lurk,
silly muggers tried to steel my ball, my Dad went berserk,
then just past our home towns ground, like clockwork, my mother calls,

where we tried to emulate, the likes of Hoddle,
with mazy runs and hair cuts like Chris Waddle,
when we thought that life would be a doddle,
where we learned from audacious bicycle kicks, that who dares wins,
