Thunder in the Hills

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 (Burnley v Blackburn FAC5, 20/2/05)

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 A pale Lancashire sun
Lingers briefly
Over the mud and grass
That is Turf Moor,
As it welcomes the arrival
Of Burnley and Blackburn.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The two Lancashire rivals battling it out
For a place in the FA Cup quarter finals
Both sides needing points in their league,
Both sides anxiously
Chasing the glory
That is the FA Cup.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 It’s not pretty, and footballing passion
Runs high in these neighbours hearts,
More so in a derby confrontation
This passion,
Sadly,
Fails to translate into pitch action.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Deadlocked,
In a Lancashire stand-off
The games potential of blood and thunder
Turns into a game
Of thud and blunder
As neither side makes headway.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Five minutes of time added,
And a prat runs onto the park,
But is soon bundled off to the cells.
One of the afternoon’s few exciting moments.
A drawn game,
Badly suffering from the burden of great potential.
