“and the first ball drawn out is …
Ireland!”
(good one, Ms Theron)
but the real draw, for me
is in the smiles radiating
from the young (and young at heart) football mad occupants
caught on camera in the local townships –
those big wide smiles
entice
from Limpopo, to Polokwane
from Gugulethu, to Robben Island
from Crossroads, to Bikkiesdorp –
what looks like hardship to us
and parched playing surfaces
is just a natural bowl
of football
and fun
and frolicking
for them

Notes

On seeing such joyful faces (including a team of grannies), in pictures on the BBC website, in the build up to the draw.

And also reference to the rehearsal yesterday, where apparently, Charlize Theron came out with that classic one liner!
Wouldn’t it be funny, if a little leprechaun managed to get ball number 33 into the machine!!!!!!!!!!!
