WC2010 : Day 5

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 This morning the birds are feasting
On our manicured lawn
And it feels at last
Like a tournament born

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 And it’s not just because
Of the Samba Kings
But the spirit and soul
That the underdog brings

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 So kudos to Korea
The ones from the North
Who hustled and harried
As the Seleção set forth

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 After a passable first half
Of sideways motion
Brazil at last
Found their magic potion

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 With Robinho pulling the strings
They set Maicon free
His finish intended or not
The World’s aglee!

Notes

Maicon’s amazing goal still has everyone wondering:
Did he mean it or not?
With the ball running out for a goal kick from Elano’s through ball, Maicon swerved the ball between keeper & near post.

Meant or not – only a Brazilian could do it!
In body shape, it brought back memories of Carlos Alberto’s goal in the 1970 final.

And let’s not forget the 2nd goal in this game, a pinpoint precision pass from Robinho, and a gracefully stroked finish from Elano.

North Korea won a lot of hearts with their ceaseless endeavour.
