WC2014 : Day 1

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The build-up: it’s usually all about Wayne
Or degenerates acting crudely;
But seeing young Oxygen-Chamber in such pain
It really is all about rue knee!

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 ~ # ~

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Boxfest

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 My dearest wish
for this competition starting
is that friends are made
‘afore the parting

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 And friendships true
full of bonding
nothing false
no absconding

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 And when in play
we see a frenzy
of skills and tricks
that makes us envy

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 And that all the charts
of possession ration
shows ball in box
to underscore our passion!

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 ~ # ~

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 Not there

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 We’re not there, we’re exluded
our hopes expired, at the pre-qualification stage;
we’ll not make it
onto any poet’s page

11 Leave a comment on verse 11 0 and the journo’s will ignore us
no-one will implore us
to win;
it’s a sin

12 Leave a comment on verse 12 0 for we wanted so much – to be there
to share
in the action
instead, we’re an upset faction

13 Leave a comment on verse 13 0 but we will follow
like a swallow
darting from one game to another
anyone that takes our fancy – we’ll call a brother!

14 Leave a comment on verse 14 0 ~ # ~

15 Leave a comment on verse 15 0 opening match haiku

16 Leave a comment on verse 16 0 off beam decision
Brazil get a helping hand
tainted victory

Notes

Well, Kevin Raymond got his wish for more pre-tournament drama!

Apart from that – it has been an incredibly muted build-up – is that a good omen?
Time will tell !

Reference in the first poem, to the fact that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is a big doubt – he picked up a bad knee injury in the last friendly – as of today he is still with the squad – and might be ready for one of the matches – we’ve been there, done that, I’m not sure it’s a good policy, as much as I do rate the lad.

The third poem – could be anyone of course, but in particular:
Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Northern Ireland.
