18 Leave a comment on verse 18 0 In this period of respite
We’ve stretched our sporting allegiances
Seen Federer usurped
Hamilton lighting up like sodium
Atop the Silverstone podium
And sadly in Harrogate, we witness Cavendish crash
But all we really want
Is to be fed from the World Cup bash!

Notes

Rest days:
6th & 7th July 2014

Inspired after reading the BBC football gossip column, and all the references seemed to be about tweets and re-tweets ahead of the Quarter Finals.

And also a reaction to being beaten to the post – i.e. Pete Goulding using up every rhyme of ‘France’ in one of his awe-inspiring collection of daily poems.

Kudos, Pete.

Editor’s privilege:

my other great passion is cycling, so I’d like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the absolutely unbelievable crowds attending the first 3 days racing in the Tour de France, where Le Grand Départ saw the peleton wend its way through a delightful Yorkshire.

Day 1 spoiled by Mark Cavendish crashing just before the finish line.
Day 2 an unbelievable days racing, where all the top 20 riders in contention scrapped it out, never seen before so early on.
Day 3 : London’s familiar skyline beamed out across the world.
