When Saturday Comes

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 When Autumn leaves begin to fall
Something inside of me calls
When Saturday comes
And the boys in black and white
Come rolling on

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Deep down in every town
You’ll find the holy ground
When Saturday comes
And the boys in black and white
Come rolling on

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Let the outside world go by
Build your castles in the sky
Let your spirit fly
When Saturday comes
When the boys in black and white
Come rolling on

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 On that field of dreams we fly
You’ll see grown men cry
When Saturday comes
And the boys in black and white
Come rolling on

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 When the final whistle blows
Close the gates
Turn the lamps down low
When Saturday comes
The boys in black and white
Come rolling on

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Let the outside world go by
Build your castles in the sky
Let your spirit fly
When Saturday comes
When the boys in black and white
Come rolling on

Notes

I wrote this song a few years ago, inspired by my time on the terraces of Twerton Park, the beloved home of Bath City. I was also privileged to supply the music for a CD featuring an interview with the late and far beyond great Tom Finney. Saw him many times and witnessed many grown men sobbing at his testimonial, yes hardening Lancastrians with tears in their eyes singing ‘abide with me.
