from St. James’ visit Anfield’s hallowed ground:

irrepressible Michael, boy wonder (well, before Rooney!),
and Shearer – the warhorse, the old dependable
for England, Newcastle, Blackburn.

In this Christmas present, forget those
of the past, this is here and now:
Saints Michael and Alan, how we pray
you’ll leave your shooting boots at home, or else,
okay, stick ’em in the net if you must,
but allow us one or two more.
