A hot spring day with the sun beating down
Onto a pitch unweathered by the previous months
But I am tense and fear for the future
Then the teams emerge and I see our striker
Running out in white boots.

They emit a sense of arrogance
Like he doesn’t need to put on traditional boots
To score he can use what look like trainers
Because he feels much more confident
When wearing white boots.

Standing out from the rest of the team
But he could be playing a lot better today
Maybe it’s the heat but I wished he’d run more
Or change the game with seconds of magic
Thanks to the white boots.

And he claps the fans who travelled
If only he had got one goal to cheer us up
We were all hoping we would get one
From the white boots.
