WW1 Poets fast forward to here and now
¶ 1
Leave a comment on verse 1 0
one’s métier
was metre
not death
for Dieter
¶ 2
Leave a comment on verse 2 0
so we wrote
of the wrongs
in the hope that someone might
put them right
¶ 3
Leave a comment on verse 3 0
but a call to arms
over-rode our calling
and we had no choice
however galling
¶ 4
Leave a comment on verse 4 0
so how gay
that today
arms to bear
decries despair
¶ 5
Leave a comment on verse 5 0
a whistle shrill
and battle commences
yet praise be to the Lord
and our defences
¶ 6
Leave a comment on verse 6 0
attacks repelled
with no losses
praise be the troops
and the bosses
¶ 7
Leave a comment on verse 7 0
praise from the stands
for those in the trenches
and calls for subs
from the footy benches
¶ 8
Leave a comment on verse 8 0
be glad and rejoice
at freedom’s fate
and let Bardic voice
Beauty narrate!
