England girls make it look so easy

Oh girls, you made it look
So easy, like taking candy
From a baby
That old song
And yet the ladies of Harlech
Were supposed to be
Singing from the same sheet
But the Welsh girls
Were debutantes
New to this kind of experience
Wet behind the ears
Of course they were
Still, in the valleys of
Porthcawl, Glamorgan,
Llanelli and Swansea
There will still be a welcome
On the hillside
Be sure there will
Sadly though it was a
Six goal demolition English
Wrecking ball
Ruthless as ever
A demolition squad
From England’s merciless
Firing squad
Ella, Keira, Georgia,
Aggie, Beth, Lauren,
Allesia, Lucy, Leah,
Alex
You were the bees knees
Victory never in doubt
It was the road to ruination
For the ladies in red
Who must have been
Hoping against hope
That the gentlemanly exploits
Of John Charles and Toshack
Would resound through the ages
Galvanise them towards yet
More heroic feminine deeds
Maybe the scurrying and scampering
Brian Flynn, always restless and tireless
Or the late and much missed Leighton James
Taunting, jinking, dropping
Mischievous shoulders
Winging his way towards
The land of Welsh wonderment
But not last night
Wales simply opened up like
A gripping novel page turner
Half a dozen goals flooding
Through the dams and reservoirs
From England’s most efficient hit squad
So it’s goodbye Wales
Sweet choristers
In the middle of the yodelling Alps
England now find themselves
Facing Scandinavian obstacles
It’s Sweden up next
For the Lionesses
Quarter finals on the horizon
Quite possibly Euro champions
Farcical against the French
But against Wales
Just wild and wanton
Unstoppable and filling their
Boots, prolific
As snow in Switzerland
At the height of winter
Come on girls
Let’s do this one again
Shaming the lads
Who can only fantasise
About another 1966
And yet for the boys and girls
It’s time to decorate
With Euros and World Cup
Trophies in tearful cabinets
If the girls can bring it home
So can the lads
England women, we do believe
