Coventry City Are Back

The Sky Blues are back
after 25 long years,
us fans have suffered heartache
and there’s been many tears.
It’s been a rollercoaster ride
with depressing times and lows,
but the club has bounced back
and survived all the heavy blows.
So a return to top flight football
after a quarter of a century away
many thanks goes to Frank Lampard
let’s hope he stays we all pray ?
We’ve got some outstanding players
and many this season have really shone,
but football can be ruthless
so unfortunately several will be gone.
So Coventry City are champions
the CBS Arena a sea of sky blue,
and even though I say so myself
it’s thoroughly deserved too !
Great to have you back Kev…
Thanks for your Sky Blues Are Back ode. Almost a year on the dot eh….after last time.
Keep on my friend. Was great meeting up with you in Cov Library some years back.. good times.
I ws just thinking about when I was at Chelsea (early 2000s) one week-day morning, standing alone in the empty main entrance to the ground and being photogrsphed for a book called Blokes With Ball . This, whilst wearing a pair of giant blue and white clown-like football slippers that a Leicester fan friend/fan had lent me.
Suddenly Frank Lampard. who I’d always wanted to meet. drove in and stopped to look at me in a very bemused way and just as quckly drone off shaking his head!
Best

Hi Crispin. The celebrations yesterday in the streets of Coventry and the festival in the Memorial Park showed what it meant. Frank Lampard and his squad really enjoyed themselves, they did themselves and our city proud.
Can they repeat the feat in the Premier League ? Just to survive the first season back will be fine, and who knows after that ?
Anyway we’ll enjoy it all for now and all that’s left to say is ‘ Play Up Sky Blues. ‘
Congratulations on the Sky Blues promotion to the Premier League, Kevin. Coventry are a great side and deserve this success. Meanwhile my happy Hammers are heading in the opposite direction, Championship bound, I fear. But have a brilliant season back in the top flight, mate. Best wishes.
Hi Crispin,
Thanks for the featured poem for the Arsenal Premier League victory. I love that photo showing the Arsenal ladies and fans in full rattle and rosette mode. I’ve seen it before quite a few times and, I think, a bit iconic. I think it was before the Gunners victory against Liverpool in the 1950 FA Cup Final. Great photograph.
Thanks
Joe
Thanks for that Joe. Yes it’s been some season we had a blip but came out of it and finished strong. A mate of mine supports West Ham here in Coventry and my next door neighbour is a Spurs supporter, and both are getting edgy ! I like the Championship though as it’s competitive and has some good teams, players, and fans. Anyway we are back in the top flight and who knows what will happen ?
Cheers. Kev.
