FA Cup quarter finals

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 So it is that the FA Cup
Reaches the last eight
Quarter final, the
Clenching of teeth
And biting of nails
We’ve all been here before
Football’s hell for leather
Histrionics, it’s time
To hide behind the settee
We can barely watch
Not for those of a
Nervous disposition
The Saints will be marching in
At St Mary’s and praying
For mercy and miracles
And hoping that Arsenal minds
Will be somewhere else
Perhaps nervously glancing
Over their shoulders
At the Premier League title
Surely not that long now
But the Gunners should be
Home and hosed
Coasting along by the
South Coast
Southampton perhaps
Casting their thoughts
Back to 50 years ago
When Lawrie Mcmenemy’s
Foot soldiers shocked
The world and the late
But much missed Bobby Stokes
Fired across Alex Stepney
And the net swallowed up the goal
United, not quite together
Saints lift the FA Cup
Meanwhile Chelsea blowing hot and cold
Should have far too much class,
Streetwise savvy and wherewithal
Robbie Williams Port Vale
Surely in need of a good port
After their gallant exertions
At Stamford Bridge
Chelsea semi finalists
It may be safe to assume
And then the big one
The Titans and Cavaliers
Meet at the Etihad
City and Liverpool like
Land locked enemies
Grappling and battling
For territory, conquests
At stake,
North West gloating rights
Pep and Arne
Not at loggerheads
But the FA Cup
Will mean the world
To both, you can be
Sure of that
Feisty and fiery
Rodri and Salah
Purple robed protagonists
Star quality,
Magical feet
Footballing brains
Sharply attuned
Ready and primed for
The big occasion
It could be City’s season
After all
But Liverpool will
Want to make amends
For shoddy workmanship
This season at least
And finally West Ham
Our faithful friends
How you’ve followed them
All the way
Through thick and thin
Adversity and perversity
Never quite knowing when
If ever it’ll happen again
Staring down the barrel
Of relegation to the Championship
Hopefully not
But on Easter Sunday
No chocolate eggs for the
Heavenly Hammers
Leeds United will be
On the Easter parade
Your heart would love
Another FA Cup trophy
For those lovable Irons
But the Premier League
Has to be prioritised
West Ham, still in the bottom three
Desperately sliding down the
Greasy pole and hoping
That Leeds in the FA Cup
Will not side track them
For a minute
Personally an FA Cup semi final
Will be that welcome bonus
But not at the expense
Of a relegation minefield
So the FA Cup
And survival in the
Premier League by three points
Surely not too much
To ask for

Notes

It’s FA Cup quarter final time and the last eight. Will it be Arsenal, Manchester City or Liverpool and Chelsea in the semis? It could go to the wire.
