Goal Machine

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 When he takes a long haul flight
through the sun’s dipped beams outlining grey,
when everyone sleeps he stays awake.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 When others revise for future tests
or diverted minds shift between screens,
Erling takes a literal view of what comes next.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Now flight path lines and contrails stretch
even rhythm across a screen of blue
showing future times forecast true.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 And as bottles gently rattle
outlandish offerings to remain untapped,
are you somehow on a different plane,
I wonder, when looking at the map.

Notes

This refers to a current trend when flying – embraced by Erling Haaland – to deny all input (food/drink/entertainment) other than the flight path map. Doctors have called it madness; others see it as a sign of resilience and stoicism.
