Euro 2020 (in 2021)
Round 1, Group D, venue : Hampden Park
Scotland 0 – 2 Czech Republic
Striker Schick scored both goals.
The 2nd an absolute classic lob from 47 yards (just inside the Scot’s half) over a retreating David Marshall, from a move where Scotland had just had a shot blocked.
I tried using “niblick” but it just didn’t scan well.
The title?
It was in the original last line – and then I changed the last line!
Decided to leave it in as the title….
bit of a play on words, as in “not a proper limerick”

Ha!! Just brilliant! I can hear this being sung. So funny!
I love this verse as I know exactly that feeling of living in a fantasy while kicking the ball as a kid. Makes me wonder what fantasy world professional players live in when they dribble, pass and shoot? Hopefully it’s doesn’t always feel like routine job fired them
Hi Denys. Thanks for your kind words. I could have mentioned Dixie Dean but decided not to.

I think this is best thing I have read so far about the legend. Thanks
One of the greats, inspired my generation of school kids in the 80s
