Injured or dismissed
And at that point the manager thinks
Why did I not have a keeper on the bench?
Hands the jersey to the eager defender
In training he throws himself the hardest
Maybe when he falls he’ll stop a ball.
And every corner, every shot
Every free kick or aimless long ball
Causes concern for everyone who knows.
His goal kicks look a little awkward
Mannerisms are laboured
As he kicks his studs against the post.
He shouts at the back four
He’s been shouted at enough times
So knows how it goes.
But in the role of keeper
He’s satisfying a itch he ignores
And he palms and punches and saves.
The clean sheet seemed lost
Yet he shrugs it off like a job
The ball just seem to hit him.
