Mohammed bin Salman to Putin and Trump
The lows of your methods don’t cease

Through the long-ago once People’s Game
As you keep all your henchmen all nicely in tow
With payments to ward off the blame

Is there any place worse we can go 
Where stadium builders die for a dime
And human rights don’t get a show ?

With your ludicrous Peace prize for war 
Ignoring the fans who bring colour and joy
Who you price out of sight even more

As you bleed us all our money and soul

Has there ever been a bigger narcissistic money-grabbing sychophant?

PS. I used to love the World Cup.

Now, after some of FIFA’s dubious ‘antics’ and unfulfilled promises during recent iffy tournaments in South Africa, Russia and Qatar, whilst not boycotting it, (which does make me someting of a hypocrite and coward I guess,) I will continue to feel guilty and complicit just watching England and Scotland take part this time.

Up next, as our World teeters, America, Mexico and Canda loom large, expensively and unwelcomingly for many, with Saudi Arabia to follow.

I don’t know about you, but it makes me incredibly sad for the game I love and the competition which I was so engrossed in as a child, watching my first tournaments on TV in Sweden, Chile and England…. and then running out onto the street to re-enact it with mates.

Aside from your take on games , be a voice on the bigger and wider picture. In doing so, always remember the William Wordsworth phrase- which I’ve quoted here and in schools on many an occasion:
