What Have You Done To Our World Cup (FIFA) ?

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 What have you done to our World Cup
What have you done to our game
Failing In Football Always
FIFA destroy without shame ?

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 You’re a plundering clown Infantino
As you cuddle the next one to fleece
Mohammed bin Salman to Putin and Trump
The lows of your methods don’t cease

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 All under the guise of uniting the world
Through the long-ago once People’s Game
As you keep all your henchmen all nicely in tow
With payments to ward off the blame

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Is there anything left you won’t stoop to
Is there any place worse we can go
Where stadium builders die for a dime
And human rights don’t get a show ?

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Where you act like a mighty World leader
With your ludicrous Peace prize for war
Ignoring the fans who bring colour and joy
Who you price out of sight even more

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 What happened to your being neutral
The ethos the message the goal ?
But ev’ryone here knows what drives you
As you bleed us all our money and soul

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 You know what you’ve done to our World Cup
You know what you’ve done to our game
Failing In Football Always
Gianni hang you head in shame

Notes

I could go on – you know the rest.

Has there ever been a bigger narcissistic money-grabbing sychophant?

PS. I used to love the World Cup.

Now, after some of FIFA’s dubious ‘antics’ and unfulfilled promises during recent iffy tournaments in South Africa, Russia and Qatar, whilst not boycotting it, (which does make me someting of a hypocrite and coward I guess,) I will continue to feel guilty and complicit just watching England and Scotland take part this time.

Up next, as our World teeters, America, Mexico and Canda loom large, expensively and unwelcomingly for many, with Saudi Arabia to follow.

I don’t know about you, but it makes me incredibly sad for the game I love and the competition which I was so engrossed in as a child, watching my first tournaments on TV in Sweden, Chile and England…. and then running out onto the street to re-enact it with mates.

As ever, all of your poems on the 2026 tournament will be also curated separetly in the ‘Your World Cup Poems’ section in Crispin’s Corner on the left of the Home page, as they do ev’ry time, so do please use our poetry platform to let us know your feelings.

Aside from your take on games , be a voice on the bigger and wider picture. In doing so, always remember the William Wordsworth phrase- which I’ve quoted here and in schools on many an occasion:

“Poetry is writing with passion about something you feel passionate about.”
