Good Kop, bad cop

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Last night, it was the sort of match
That took your breath away
Clever shot, cheap shot
Good save, bad save

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Today, at 3:06 pm, we remember
With sorrow and pain in our hearts
96 fallen brethren
And the two minutes silence – unites and deafens

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The scales of justice, shamefully unbalanced
Has fingers pointing still
And recriminations rumble on :
Good Kop, bad cop

Notes

20th Anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, when 96 innocent victims lost their lives at the FA Cup Semi-Final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.

This poem references the Champions League quarter final match, 2nd leg, between Chelsea and Liverpool, which finished 4-4. Amazing game.

But all celebrations, rightly muted.
And all defeatism, rightly tempered.

All the pain and sorrow reserved for the families and friends of the 96.
