Day After Christmas

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 It’s the day after Christmas
When all through the house
Not a sound can be heard
No bouncing cutlery, plastic plates, beaker
Or yells of “MUM!” or “DAD!”
Not a hiss from the usual incessant T.V.
At last home to myself,
Home alone!
Under the watchful eye of my baby sitter
Dancing Danni
Thankfully whose lips are sealed.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Radio tuned to BBC Tees Sport
Relaxing on the leather sofa
Every word of the ‘Voice of the Boro’ savoured
Season’s best crowd,
Boro on fire,
Can’t wait for kick-off!

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Tigers in Lion den should be a slaughter but
When’s the game coming alive?
When will Boro score?

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 On the seventh minute
Almost gifted the game,
Chance after chance missed
Boro can not put this game to bed
Is it case good old Boro
Returning to their bad old ways?

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 What’s going on?
Is this the same Boro who
Walked in the lair of the Welsh dragon
After an epic battle
Brought the treasure home.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 If these four walls could talk or
Dancing Danni was not deaf
Some of the vocabulary they would’ve picked up
Is not printable.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Thank god for half time,
Should have had three on the board,
The contest over and the tigers
Should have been rugs
Can the gaffer inspire?

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Second half is the case of
Out of the frying pan into the fire,
Tigers rule the plain,
Boro have not turned up it would seem
If this was cricket
They would have been tried and convicted
Of match fixing
But this is Boro
Returning to their bad old days?

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 A point our only hope
Premiership football next season
Consigned to the land
East of the Sun.

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 With only three minutes on the clock
Hammered on to the Iron and steel of Teesside
And the hearts of Boro fans,
Barry Robson
Ball buried in the back of the Tigers net
Three points
Boro march on!
