WC2014 Day 12 Croatia 1 Mexico 3

In their first match of World Cup 2014 in Brazil, the Croats counted themselves desperately unlucky, despite a performance that was disciplined and plucky.
One, they said, counting themselves unlucky.
In fact, they really only lost to the hosts by virtue of a very dodgy penalty,
Whose claims for legitimacy were as weak as fennel tea.
And coach, Niko Kovač, who is normally a very pleasant chappie
Described himself as being very unhappy.
“If this is the way things are going to be,” he said, though probably not in the English language,
Then there’s no reason for us to remain here and suffer unnecessary anguish,
And we might as well go home
Across the foam.
On mature reflection, it
Might have been funnier if he’d have said, “We might as well go to Dubrovnik and Split.”
(Even though it probably wouldn’t have translated very well from the Croat,
It was still a joke he might have had a go at.)
Anyway, after this spineless, unadventurous performance against Mexico, for which they paid the ultimate price,
I bet he wishes he’d have taken his own advice.
