as the final whistle neared.
One more chance – and Papa took it
as the blue/white legions cheered.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Extra time, but one team in it,
Costa Rica tired but brave.
Even in the final minute,
Navas made one final save.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Penalties, the arbitration
who’d be in the final eight.
Lengthy walk – eyes of a nation
on the man who’d seal their fate.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 And it’s a mighty long walk to score a goal.
Millions of eyes on your fifty yard stroll,
facing up to a trauma no-one can console,
……….all the way to penalties.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Yes, it’s a mighty long walk to score a goal.
Miss and you wish you’d disappear down a hole
and you’re trying so hard to keep it under control

better than most pundits thought.
Umana though brought home the bacon.
Poor old Greeks were left distraught.

If you had the chance, you would sell your soul
and the extra time efforts may well take their toll
……….all the way to penalties.
