Was my impudent request
Times were hard and money short
But he always did his best

And a hand-drawn bird for a crest
The number cut from a blanket
Sewn by Mum with loving zest

At the time, I wasn’t happy
I wanted mine like all the rest
But looking back now, I realise
That I had been truly blessed
