Calling Gambling Time
¶ 1

on any street at any time
and right across the world
you’ll see them glaring from the shirts
of grown ups boys and girls
these gambling match day sponsors
who boldly underline
that betting is for ev’ryone
and gambling is just fine
casinos at our finger tips
a bet shop on our phone
cash in cash out now at will
at grounds or in your home

I’m sick of them beside the goals
forever in my face
I want to kick them ev’ry time
I hate them in this space
those bright enticing adverts
on hoardings by the pitch
reminding you enticing you
the chance to make it rich
while other countries ban it
we lag so far behind
we can survive without them
when will we call it ‘time’?

they dominate the EFL
they cause such mental pain
the Premier League’s awash with them
they dominate our game
they have no place in football
they’re targetting the young
they’re always there upon our screens
they tell us betting’s fun
they dominate the view we have
while watching at a game
they lure so many minds astray
addiction stakes its claim

I’m sick of staring at them
forever in my face
I long to kick those goalside things
I hate them in this space
their bright enticing adverts
on hoardings by the pitch
reminding you enticing you
the chance to make it rich
while other countries ban it
we lag so far behind
we can survive without them
when will we call it ‘time’?
