At another piece of rubber from Tescos.
An elaborate multi-folded diagram of a foot
Must justify the twenty quid price tag.

It streches uncomfortably around the skin,
The velcro tag stabs and snags
But the hope of playing football
Burns in my soul, as I reach for
The ugliest shin pad in the world.

A satisfied grin lingers on my lips:
I lasted the full ninety minutes
“But will I last until next week?”
I think, as I hobble towards my Fiesta.
