Fluttering in an optimistic wave
Patriotism affects the martyr and the knave.

Support and cries of jubilation
Hope to soon bathe the team in heavy adulation.

As always England think they have a chance
Despite critics singing songs of praise
Of the opponents whose skills leave others in a daze.

Only need a result does it matter if they dance
On the ball and show off their ability?
If England get knocked out is it just an act of futility?

White and red soon floods the streets
An atmosphere that can often turn sour
When hopes are dashed when it isn’t our hour.

Fear and excitement when England meets
The teams and the games are underway
With the trophy in sight hoping this will be our day.
