Football Mascots

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Every football club has a mascot
You see them at every game
They often dress up as animals
And they’ve all got a nickname.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 There’s Lofty the lion at Bolton Wanderers
At Coventry an Elephant called Sky Blue Sam
Nelson the Dog you’ll find at Portsmouth
And at Derby they’ve got Rammie the Ram.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Notts Forest has a Bear called Sherwood
Newcastle have a Magpie known as Monty
Pottermus the Hippo is found at Stoke
While at Morecambe there’s a cat called Christie.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Crystal Palace have an Eagle called Pete
While Carlisle has Olga who’s a Fox
At Sheffield Wednesday there’s Ozzie the Owl
But at Oxford United they’ve got Olly the Ox.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 But not all mascots are animals
Because at Everton there’s a Mr Toffee
You’ll come across Captain Gas at Bristol Rovers
And a Jolly Green Giant at Yeovil Town F.C.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Plymouth Argyle is the home of Pilgrim Pete
Shrewsbury Town is the place for a Mrs Lenny
At Charlton there’s a character called Harvey
And you’ll find Robbie the Bobby at Bury.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 But animals are the favourites at the grounds
Like Southend who’ve got Sammy the Shrimp
A.F.C. Wimbledon like a Womble named Haydon
And at Lincoln you’ll come across Poacher the Imp.

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 But I find mascots entertaining and fun
So accept them because they’ll always be around
Where else would you find a Gunnersaurus Rex
Or Swans called Cyril and Cybil but at your ground ?

Notes

I suppose football mascots are like marmite to some fans, but they can be amusing at times. I like the names they come up with for some of them like Q.P.R. and Jude the Cat, which sounds like a Rock Band, or Samson and Delilah at Sunderland, also Chester the Field Mouse at Chesterfield is clever, and I like Scunny bunny at Scunthorpe too. but I find Gillingham’s intriguing as he is known as Tommy.T. Trueblue.
They can brighten up a dull game with their antics !
