I will survive

At first I was afraid, I was petrified,
Never thought we could compete with such a makeshift side.
I spent oh so many nights
Just thinking how it all went wrong,
But I grew strong
And I learned how to carry on

And now we’re back, from outer space,
Not quite brimming o’er with skill
And down a half a yard of pace
We shouldn’t have ended up in hock,
We should have not gone on a spree
If I’d have thought for just one second
We’d be facing bankruptcy.

Go, Shels, now, go!
Dream on some more
We’ll turn it round now
Just like twenty years before.
We were bottom of the pile,
Looking up at all the rest,
But we fought on
Until we were the very best

Oh no, not I,
I will survive
As long as there’s a football team,
I know we’ll stay alive.
There is so much here to give,
Playing football just to live
And we’ll survive
We will survive, hey, hey…

Oh it really sapped my strength when we fell apart,
When insisting that we put the horse behind the cart,
I spent oh so many nights just feeling sorry for myself
I used to cry
But now I laugh as points slip by,
And you see me, somebody new,
I’m not in behind the stanchion with a blinkered view.
So you thought you’d come along
And have a laugh at our demise,
But I still can raise a song
And the fire’s back in my eyes
I will survive,
I will survive,
I will survive.
