¶ 1

Some Shelbourne fans might give him stick
When passes go astray,
When trying one too many trick
To give the ball away.
And if, perchance, he might miskick,
They’ll raise their arms and bray,
But Joey is a very special player.

There’s journeymen in every side,
They’re honest and they’re true.
They chase infield, then come out wide,
As they’re supposed to do.
They take the running in their stride,
Track back and shadow too,
But Joey is a very special player.

Yes, sometimes he might lose the ball,
His shots might be deflected,
He might ignore his teammates’ call,
The simple pass rejected,
But then again, he’ll have the gall
To do the unexpected,
For Joey is a very special player.

Lighten up, get off his back,
And marvel at his skill.
Direct your unrelenting flak
At those who show no will.
There’s very few who have the knack
Of licensing to thrill,
For Joey is a very special player.
