10 wonderful years
in this womb of bricks and mortar called ‘home’

Tony had been the first
(visitor)
to set foot across the threshold

He’d heard that I

I had –
a patsy
to my wife’s ambition

A 4 bed semi in the ‘burbs
the promise of children to come

And now,
10 years and four chisellers later
Tony is also the last to call
and for the very same reason
that brought him a-knocking in the first place
only this time
too many knocks
have taken their toll
and so with great reluctance
I pass, but not the ball
eschew the regular lift
and close the door
(from the inside)
for the last time.
