but it’s always the same
brand new season
but it’s getting more insane
transfer madness
give the fans a name
one more reminder
it’s a money old game

most of them lies
stars being touted
with money in their eyes
denials denials
is it no surprise
loyalty and futures
are never the prize

by players long gone
long-term commitment
until it went wrong
names on shirts
that we never wore long
wiped from the memory
time to move on

into that pile
pounds equals goals
money equals style
satisfy the punters
anyone’ll do
names ending “a” “e”
“i” “o” or “u”

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 meanwhile academies
nurture those here
local grown skills
that’ll never quite appear
always the name game
ticket sales and fear
I’m a local player
get me out of here
