To own the goal – and surrounding box
Is the aspiration, the striker’s aim
The achievement of which
Brings everlasting fame

An owned goal – be it deflection
Scuffed, or toughed, or just being in the vicinity
Doesn’t bother the fox in the box
They just hanker for divinity
¶ 3

An owed goal
A striker’s payback, after a drought
Or return from injury, or revenge
But usually dedicated, to the supporters who doubt

An Owen goal
So familiar to the Kop
Who cherish the memories
Of days when they were top

So to own a goal
Strikers find fit and proper
But at the wrong end?
Crouchy comes a cropper!
